Snap as you stroll

I walk around my neighborhood on a daily basis to appease Kyle’s intense yearning for the outdoors. He loves cars already and how they make noise as they zoom on by. I think it’s a given that Hot Wheels cars are in my very near future. I can already see myself stepping on them and being in explicable pain. 😀

Back in LA, we live in a gated community with cookie cutter condos and houses, so my neighborhood in the Bay area that’s near a college campus is eclectic to say the least. There was a big campus event last Friday before graduation and the streets were amok with young’ins. I’ve never been to a college event that let you wear briefs as pants! Times have changed. 😉

Whatever the norm is on dressing yourself these days, I felt so out of place with no make-up, crazy hair, and stroller in tow. I really felt the generational gap and no wonder – these kids are the same age as my 21 year old brother! I still thought I was pretty young but this day made it all too clear that I am NOT. Time to head on over to the 30’s bracket next year!

This house does not seem to care for visitors – at all. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it.

Do you see what I see? I’ll give you a closer look.

Like, what?! A mysterious Polynesian Easter Island statue in the Bay?

It made me smile as I walked by.

What I ate Wednesday – Big breakfasts!

My breakfasts have been getting bigger lately. Breakfasts are very protein based, lunch is a mix of salads+protein, and I have snacks galore with chocolate, Chex mix, and cake pops. For some reason, I’ve been eating large amounts from 7-3 and then tapering off to small dinners or no dinners at all. I think I missed more than half my dinners last week. The reason? My husband comes home from work 9-10PM and honestly, I don’t want to eat that late. I just make his meal beforehand and I just eat bits of this and that while I’m preparing.

Kyle has also been quite the handful for the past few weeks. He wakes up shrieking bloody murder multiple times throughout the night and is quite mobile with his rapid crawling. So what does that equate to? An overrun, tired mama who is surviving on broken sleep and tired limbs. Sleep > food. I hit the hay right after I see Kyle nod off around 8-9.

Due to this change, my body has incredibly shifted my food choices and eating pattern to something that’s more sustainable to my lifestyle. I need all that protein to energize me for the day. Listen to your body!

Breakfast: Egg white omelet with cheese, leftover rotisserie chicken, and a random half an avocado that needed to be eaten.

Lunch: Whole Foods. I just picked whatever looked appetizing!

Snacks: Japanese strawberry Kit Kat bar from Mitsuwa. I like the green tea one better but I couldn’t waste it, right? I just finished the entire bag in one go. 🙂

Leftover dark chocolate favors from my cousin’s wedding.

Dinner: A rare night I was hungry for dinner. I threw in tofu, yellow squash, and some leftover ground chicken into this Mapo tofu mixture. It doesn’t look too pretty but it was quite nice.

Food hype: Disappointing and sick!

My husband had a free day last week so we decided to splurge a little and eat out all day. 🙂

To start off, Peter’s Bakery wasn’t so bad. I searched for bakeries on Yelp and saw that Peter’s Bakery had pretty outstanding reviews. What jumped out at me were the many rave reviews about their Burnt Almond Cake. You would try it too, right? So I zipped off and got my hands on both flavors, original and chocolate.

I’m normally a fan of original flavors but the chocolate really triumphed. If anything, I would get this again but I don’t think I’ll be heading back there. My husband and I both agreed that the cakes were salty. You would take a bite and get that salty sensation pulling on your tongue. Maybe this was a bad batch? But BOTH flavors were salty so I don’t think that’s the case. It was okay but I don’t understand the hype. Disappointed because I was expecting something great.

We also tried Wing Stop for the first time. We ordered a small order of fries and the wings with hot sauce and lemon pepper. Both flavors were good but SO SALTY. My husband didn’t complain about the saltiness but I wasn’t a fan from the get go.

[Side note: I was told from my doctor at the age of 23 that I had surprisingly high blood pressure. I remember him telling me that it was 140/90 and that it was alarming to see someone so young with this kind of reading. He told me to limit my intake of obvious salty foods and sadly, Korean food as well due to its’ high sodium levels. So as of 6 years ago, I’ve been careful of avoiding certain foods and strictly limiting the amount of salt/sodium when I cook. So when something is salty or too rich in sodium, I can tell with the first bite.]

I think I had about 6 wings with a handful of fries. I didn’t feel too stuffed and was feeling okay until I stepped out of the restaurant. I shook off the rumbling in my tummy as gas (haha) and went about farting in my car. My husband was horrified. 😀  We got to a nearby park and as we neared the swings, my stomach FLIPPED on me. I knew this was trouble. We headed home that instant with me moaning like a woman in labor. It wasn’t pretty. I don’t know what it was; the spicy wings coupled with the saltiness or a mild case of food poisoning? I am NEVER going to wing stop again. 😦

My first Mother’s Day 2014

My husband got me my beloved Starbucks, a yummy fruit bouquet, and some moola to buy whatever I wanted. But the best gift? He took care of Kyle so I can sleep in peace. I was out for 10 hours!!! I haven’t slept that much since… before Kyle was born! It was perfection. Thank you husband. 😉

Father’s Day AND his 29th birthday is right around the corner. What should I surprise my hubby with?

Bridesmaid to Judy’s spring wedding!

As posted before, I was a bridesmaid to my cousin’s wedding last month. I had the best time and loved being a part of her big day. She sent me her finished wedding pictures the other day and I absolutely love love love her pictures! I love her choice of colors: white, coral, and mint. I love spring weddings. So soft and elegant. 🙂

I’m always surprised at how great the pictures come out knowing full well how much hair spray and makeup is caked on my face! You always think it’s going to be too much but it’s just the right amount for the camera. Let the pros work their magic, I say!

I just realized all the bridesmaids are sporting similar hair styles – it wasn’t intentional. I hope you guys are able to pick me out. FYI, I’m the one with the shortest curls. 😛
